Gingery Millers
I found the Gingery book series some time ago and had played around long enough to know that I needed change gears! I bought the dividing head book and found that I also needed the milling machine to make my gears. (Shows how green I was.) Thus started my building of some of the Gingery tools.
The Miller and then the dividing head were first on the list (after the foundry of course). Then came the shaper and all the fun of making gears and the parts needed for their assembly on the lathe. During the cold months I built another miller but used stock metal for this one. I also included a 5C shaft with collets. Thus ended my casting except for small things for other uses. I learned a lot during those days. Both the machines are in use today and are working just fine.
The machine to the left is the original Gingery miller. It is dedicated to making gears, dials and anything that requires the use of a dividing head.
The machine on the right is set up as a general purpose lathe with power feeds on both axes. It is especially useful because of the 5C collets. It makes use of the diamond tool holder and diamond toolbit and borrows a tailstock from one of the 7x** lathes. Easy and nice!
